TdF stage 18

Christophe Riblon took a sensational solo victory at the double Alpe d’Huez stage from a breakaway in the first French stage win in this Tour.

He clawed his way back to Tejay van Garderen who dropped the break. Here TJ is getting some Norse encouragement:
He came in 2nd on the stage. Nairo Quintana put time into the rest of the GC. Nice.
Moves into 3rd position on GC. I just don’t know how they are going to photograph Froome on the top step and Quintana on the bottom step of the podium in Paris and still get them in the same frame. Some sort of telephoto lens from a distance I suppose.

Speaking of Froome, he bonked badly and was resuscitated by Porte stuffing him with gels:

There was between 700,000 and 1 million people lining the route.

Whew, the stories you could tell:
Jens does a long blog on the day here. “Anyway, all in all that was one pretty amazing day. And with that, my friends, I can pretty much say goodbye to the Alpe d’Huez, at least as a rider. I don’t know when we will return but I will likely be in a team car or a VIP car, or just sitting on the side of the road!
